Baker Goes Top 40 In Very First MIAC Meet

ST. PAUL, Minn. (11/01/14)—Kaya Baker continued her season-long run as Concordia's No.1 harrier as she clocked a time of 23:55.3 and finished in 39th place at the MIAC Championship Meet. Her top 40 finish helped the Cobbers place 11th in the final team standings.

Baker was the only Concordia athlete to place in the top 50 of the meet. It was the first time Baker has competed at the MIAC Meet. Her time marked only the fifth time in the last three seasons a CC runner has posted a sub-24 minute time.

Freshman Sarah Curran continued her trend as the team's No.2 runner at the MIAC Meet. Curran was just outside the top 50. She crossed the line in 54th place in a time of 24:41.6. It was the first time since 2011 a freshman has run at the conference meet for the Cobbers. Her time of 24:41.6 is also the third fastest by a freshman for CC since the 2007 season.

Anna Sneltjes and Susan Drache finished the 6k course within 21-seconds of one another and were Concordia's No.3 and 4 runners. Sneltjes ran a 25:05.7 and came home in 60th place while Drache was close behind at 25:26.0 and in the No.65 spot. It was the first MIAC Meet for Snletjes while Drache's time was almost a full minute faster than last year's mark at the conference meet where she finished in 80th place.

Anja Smith was the final member of the Cobbers to score at the meet. She came home in 77th place in a time of 26:27.0. Kaley Hedberg and Karley Petersen were the final members of the CC MIAC squad. Hedberg, racing in her first conference meet, crossed the line in 26:31.0 and Hedberg was 14.6 seconds behind at 26:45.6.

Concordia will take a two-week break before returning to action at the NCAA Regional Meet on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Central College in Iowa.
