JAMESTOWN, N.D. (10/4/24)---The 2-week rust didn't show for Concordia in their only meet west of the Fargo-Moorhead area as they had a strong showing at the University of Jamestown Jimmie Invite. All nine of the Cobbers' runners either got a season or personal best.
The Cobbers were led by senior Drew Frolek, who was 40 seconds faster than two weeks ago with a time 23:51. She was followed by freshman Ashley Nelson who posted a personal- best time of 24:08, improving on her previous PR by 29 seconds.
This is the third straight meet where the Cobbers were led by Frolek and Nelson as they placed 6th and 9th at the meet.
Those Top 10 finishes mark the first time in exactly five years that the Cobber's had two runners place in the Top 10 of a meet. The last time came at the 2019 Jamestown Invite.
Placing third for the Cobbers with a massive time drop and personal best was first-year runner Kelyn Henry-Perlich. She posted a time of 24:56 which was 63 seconds faster than her previous best time. This also marked the first time Henry-Perlich was inside the top 20, placing 19th.
The personal bests kept on coming as the Cobbers' fourth runner, Ava Chevalier, also ran a personal best. Chevalier clocked a 30-second personal best with a time of 25:52. This was also Chevalier's highest place finish of her career as she crossed the line in 31st place.
"I just tried to go by feel today, feel how my body felt and just went from there," said Chevalier when asked how she approached the race.
Rounding out the Top 5, with another personal best, was sophomore Londyn Ames with a 13-second personal best at 26:08. Ames also had her highest place finish of her career, placing 33rd.
The Cobbers finished fourth out of eight teams marking the second time this year they placed within the Top 4 at a meet. Concordia was also six points behind host school Jamestown for third place.
The Cobbers will head about 400 miles to the southeast in two weeks when they race at the Wis.-La Crosse Tori Neubauer Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m.
