Competing in their final race before the MIAC Championship Meet, the Cobbers rode the momentum from their outstanding performance at the last meet and had seven runners post a season or personal-best mark at the Tori Neubauer Invitational hosted by Wis.-La Crosse.
First-year runner Ashley Nelson bookended the regular season by leading the Cobbers in the first meet and the last meet. Nelson posted a personal-best in La Crosse time as she went under 24 minutes for the first time in her career. Her time of 23:56 was an 8- second personal best and placed her 43rd out of the 237 overall runners at the meet.
Following right behind Nelson was senior Drew Frolek, who also went under 24 minutes. She crossed the line in a time of 23:58. That mark was only 2 seconds slower than Nelson and was one place behind her in the No.44 spot.
Frolek ran 42 seconds faster than last year at the same meet.
This was also the fourth straight meet where Frolek and Nelson were the No.1 and No.2 finishers for the Cobbers. Both athletes have been the team's top runner twice this year.
Finishing third for the Cobbers, with another impressive race, was another first-year athlete Kelyn Henry-Perlich. Henry-Perlich posted a 14-second personal best with a time of 24:42.
That time placed her 72nd overall in the individual standings and marked the second straight meet where Henry-Perlich has posted a personal best.
The next Cobber to cross the line was sophomore Londyn Ames. Like Nelson and Henry-Perlich, Ames also ran a personal best. Her time of 26:00.6 was an 8-second personal best and placed her 130th.
That time was also 25 seconds faster than last year's mark at the meet.
Rounding out the Top 5 was senior Airial Johnson, who ran a season-best time of 26:20 for a finishing place of 141st. It was a season-best time by 55 seconds.
Overall, the Cobbers placed 12th as a team out of the 20 schools and finished fifth out of the six MIAC schools there.
The Cobbers will have two weeks to train and prepare for the MIAC Championship Meet. They will head back to St. Olaf where they raced their first 6k of the season. They will compete at the conference meet on Saturday, Nov. 2nd at 11 a.m.
