Nelson Earns CSC Academic All-District honors
Concordia sophomore Rowan Nelson was named to the Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team, as selected by the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), it was announced this week.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/22/23)---Concordia sophomore Rowan Nelson (Melrose, Minn.) was named to the Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team, as selected by the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), it was announced this week.
The 2022-23 Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in the middle of March.
Nelson is an Applied Physics major who has a grade point average of 3.87. On the court, Nelson led Concordia in rebounding and was second in scoring in 2023. He finished the year with a 5.7 rebounds per game average, and had a 13.7 points per game scoring average.
Nelson, who was named to the MIAC All-Conference and All-Rookie Teams last season, scored at least 10 points in 23 of the team's 25 games during the year. His season high came at Augsburg when he 11-for-15 from the floor and finished with 24 points. Nelson's top rebound total of the season came against St. Mary's when he collected 11 boards and posted his only double-double of the season.
Nelson has played in 47 games in his two seasons at Concordia, and has scored 693 points and hauled down 227 rebounds.
