News mentions
Junior forward Isaac Henkemyer-Howe (Moorhead, Minn.) and sophomore defenseman Bauer Barry (Wayzata, Minn./Chaska HS) were named to the MIAC All-Conference Team as selected by the conference coaches.
The playoff cat finally lost its ninth life. Concordia fell behind St. Mary’s 2-0 and rallied to tie the game 2-2 before losing 3-2 on an empty-net goal in the waning seconds of the third period.
Playoff hockey arrived early in Moorhead, with two of the Top 5 teams in the MIAC battling to a 2-2 overtime tie at the Moorhead Sports Center. Concordia and Augsburg played a tight-checking, high-intense game that was befitting of a conference tournament showdown.
Concordia outshot Augsburg 40-29 in their series opener on Friday, but ran into a red-hot goalie and lost 4-0 in the series opener.
Concordia gave up two goals in the first 6 minutes of their series finale with Bethel, allowed two goals in each of the three periods, and lost 6-0.
A red-hot goalie and an unbeaten home record proved too much for the No.2-ranked team in Division III as Concordia outlasted St. Scholastica 2-1 in the first game of the 2-game series at the Moorhead Sports Center.
Concordia fell behind Marian 4-1 for the second consecutive game but then scored two straight to get within one goal before the Sabres closed out the series with a 5-3 win with a goal in the final 3 minutes of play.
Mason Plante scored his fourth goal in the last two games, but it wasn't enough as the Cobbers gave up four goals in the first period and lost 6-3 at Marian in the series opener.
A goal in the fourth minute of overtime kept Concordia from earning an extra point in the MIAC standings in their series opener at Hamline.
Concordia used its offensive zone passing prowess to score three goals in the final 35 minutes of play against Hamline and posted a 3-1 win in the non-conference contest.
The classic cliché goes that all good things must come to an end, and that was the case with the Cobbers’ win streak to start the season. Concordia gave up five consecutive goals in the first 48 minutes of their series finale at St. John’s and lost 5-2.
If the last 15 games in conference play are anything like the opener, then Cobber fans are in for one whale of a season. Concordia and St. John’s traded goals until senior captain Cole O’Connell won the game with a goal in the first minute of overtime to give the Cobbers a dramatic 4-3 win over the Johnnies.
What’s better than a 3-game unbeaten streak to start the season? How about a 4-game unbeaten streak? Concordia used a dominating performance to blank Wis.-Superior and posted a 4-0 victory to up their unbeaten streak to four games.
Make it three straight games to start the season without a loss for Concordia. The Cobbers extended its unbeaten streak by scoring the first four goals against Northland and cruised to a 6-2 win.
