Cobbers Return To Action After Thanksgiving Break
Concordia returned to action after the Thanksgiving break and fell 5-0 to St. Mary’s in Winona.
WINONA, Minn. (12/06/24)---Concordia returned to action after the Thanksgiving break and fell 5-0 to St. Mary's in Winona.
The Cardinals were able to come away with a single goal in the first period and then two in each of the second and third frames to secure the victory.
The Cobbers are now 4-6-0 overall and 1-4-0 in the MIAC, while St. Mary's improves to 5-3-0 in all games and remains unbeaten in conference play at 3-0-0.
The two teams battled in a back-and-forth affair until the final six minutes of the second period. Both squads put up 25 shots on goal through the first two periods but it was a goal at the 14:12 mark of the middle stanza and one more at 15:35 that turned a 1-0 game into a 3-0 contest.
The Cardinals were able to get a fourth goal in the third minute of the third period to put the game away.
One of the differences in the game came on the power play. St. Mary's scored three of its five goals on the power play and were 3-for-6 in the game, while Concordia was held scoreless in three power play chances.
The Cobbers were outshot 42-29 in the game. Hunter Bjorge, Hunter Olson, Jackson Lucia and Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe all had three shots on goal to lead CC.
Sophomore goalie Dane Couture made 37 saves for the Cobbers.
Concordia will look to gain a split in the 2-game series when the Cobbers battle the Cardinals on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m.
