A Stylishly Successful Senior Celebration Day
Concordia celebrated its seniors and their parents before their series finale with Marian (Wis.) and then the team honored the group by going out and shutting out the Sabres 6-0. Eight of the nine Cobber seniors recorded a point in the lopsided win. CC also received five of its six goals from five different seniors.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/04/25)---Concordia celebrated its seniors and their parents before their series finale with Marian (Wis.) and then the team honored the group by going out and shutting out the Sabres 6-0.
It was Concordia's first shutout since the fourth game of last season when they blanked Wis.-Superior 4-0 at home.
The Cobber seniors also got in on the action during the game as eight of the nine seniors honored recorded at least one point in the lopsided win. CC also received five of its six goals from five different seniors.
Concordia is now 5-7-1 as they head into the major portion of its 2025 schedule. With the loss, Marian falls to 5-7-0 on the year.
The opening goal of the game came from the only non-senior. Zak Kennett made the most of his recent addition to the lineup by posting his second goal in as many games. He scored the Cobbers' opener on Friday night and duplicated that feat less than 24 hours later.
He got Concordia on the board at the 8:31 mark of the first period with the assist going to senior Braden Costello.
The next five Cobber goals would all be scored by seniors. CC doubled up on its goal total in the second period with strikes from Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe and Hanson O'Leary. Seniors Mason Plante and Troy Dahlheimer put up the helpers on the pair of second-period strikes.
Concordia bettered their total from the second period by netting three goals in the third frame. Hunter Bjorge and Adam Brown notched their first goals of the season in the first nine minutes of the final period.
Plante capped off the perfect senior storybook Saturday by scoring at 19:00. His third goal of the year was assisted by senior Hunter Olson and junior Joe Harguindeguy.
Concordia's domination also showed on the shot chart where they held a 41-15 advantage in shots on goal for the game. CC also outshot the Sabres 87-44 in the 2-game series.
Cobber sophomore goalie Dane Couture stopped all 15 shots he faced to record his first collegiate shutout.
Concordia will continue with its non-conference schedule to start 2025 when they play at Wis.-Superior on Friday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m.
