Heating Up The First Away Meet

FARGO, N.D. (2/13/16)—David Supinski and Eddie Clifton provided the heat for Concordia in the team's first away meet of the season. Supinski continues to impress in his freshman season as he posted top 10 finishes in the 200 and 400 meters while Clifton became the second Cobber athlete to clear 14-feet in the pole vault this season.

Supinski's best finish of the meet, which was primarily NCAA Division I and II athletes, came in the 400 meters where he posted a time of 51.24 and came home in sixth place. His time is a season best and pushes him into the top 10 in the MIAC.

Supinski backed up his sixth-place finish in the 400 meters by placing ninth in the 200 meters. He crossed the line in a time of 23.46. That mark is also a season best and has him in the top 20 of the conference.

Supinski currently holds a top 5 time in the MIAC in the 600 meters. He ran a 1:23.68 at the Cobber Duals and the fourth fastest time in the conference.    

Clifton stepped to the forefront of the talented Cobber pole vault crew on Saturday. Entering the day CC had four athletes positioned in the top 17 of the MIAC. Clifton had the third best mark of the season in the first two meets but then uncorked a vault of 14-01.25 at NDSU and finished in a tie for sixth place at the meet.

Clifton's final height is a season best for any Concordia athletes and is the fifth best in the conference this season.

Teammate Eli Beachy finished right behind Clifton in eighth place with a height of 13-07.25. That mark is a season best and keeps in the top 10 of the MIAC.

Jackson Schepp and Nick Anderson had top 6 finishes in the high jump. Schepp cleared 6-02.75 and placed fourth while Anderson was sixth with an identical height. Anderson's mark is a season best and jumps him into the No.6 spot in the MIAC this season.

Gabe Wright and Zac Freese both qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles. Wright finished seventh and put up his best time of the day in the prelims when he clocked a 9.20. Freese was the final qualifier for the finals and placed eighth. Like Wright, his best time came in the prelims when he ran a 9.92. Wright's prelim time was a season best and is the 11th fastest in the conference this year.

Matthew Lillehaugen and Luke Lillehaugen and Race Heitkamp had other notable track finishes.

Matthew Lillehaugen was third in the 3000 meters with a season-best time of 9:07.24 which gets him into the top 20 of the MIAC.

Matthew's brother Luke was ninth in the 400 meters. He crossed the line in 52.71 which is a season best by 0.16 of a second and moves him p the conference standings and into the No.13 spot.

Heitkamp was eighth in the mile run. He sped to a season-best time of 4:40.27. He edged teammate Nick Solheim at the wire. Solheim was ninth just 0.15 of a second behind Heitkamp.

Concordia will take their farthest road trip to date when they head south to St. John's to compete in the SJU Quadrangular on Saturday, Feb. 20 beginning at 11:30 a.m.
