4x200-Meter Relay Team Breaks School Record On GPS Weekend
DES MOINES, Iowa/INDIANOLA, Iowa/JAMESTOWN, N.D. (4/24-25/26)---Cobber fans needed their GPS app to keep track of Concordia in the annul Drake Relays/Kip Javrin Open/Al Cassell Classic weekend.
Despite being in three different places with different groups, and needing a detailed scorecard to keep track of all the times and distances, the Cobbers were able to come away with a school record and several solid performances as they get closer to the MIAC Championship Meet.
The highlight of the weekend belonged to the 4x200-meter team of Nolan Morical, Ethan Lebrija, Nicholas Hasbargen and Trevor Tiongson, who broke the school record by posting a time of 1:27.91 at the Drake Relays. Their finishing time was .74 of a second faster than the old program record set at the Drake Relays in 2023.
The top finish at the Drake Relays came courtesy of Cooper Folkestad, who finished second in the shot put. He recorded a distance of 61-11.75 and finished second in the championship flight. The only competitor to beat Folkestad was a DI athlete from Nebraska.
Folkestad continues to have the best marks in Division III in the shot put and discus.
Concordia then headed the vans from Des Moines to Indianola to compete in Kip Janvrin Open. Logan Clark came away with the top mark at the meet for CC when he posted a season-best time of 15.98 in the 110-meter hurdles. His mark jumps him into the Top 10 of the MIAC this season and will earn him a spot at the conference meet.
For the athletes who didn't endure the 16-hour round trip to Iowa, they had the option to compete in the 3-hour round trip to Jamestown.
Needless to say, there were many more athletes who chose the jaunt west and came away with several season-best marks at the Al Cassell Classic.
The top finishes in events that featured more than five athletes were turned in by Blake Houska and Isaiah Damico.
Houska was third in the hammer throw with a distance of 158-03 and Damico earned a bronze finish in the 800 meters after crossing the line in 2:02.29.
Ben LePard posted a season-best mark in the long jump with a distance of 20-01.50, while Brody Syverson posted a PR in the 1500 meters and Noah Thompson cleared the top height in his career in the pole vault.
Concordia will put away the vans, buses and automobiles for the upcoming weekend when they host the annual Cobber Open/Cobber Twilight/Last Chance/Snownami/Spite The Flood Meet on Saturday, May 2 at 1 p.m.
