Multi-Dimensional Attack Shines In MIAC Opener

DULUTH, Minn. (11/19/22)---Concordia showed off its multi-dimensional attack in its 85-60 win at St. Scholastica.
In their season-opening win over Minn.-Morris, Concordia hit nine 3-pointers and won by 25 points. In their conference-opening win at St. Scholastica on Saturday, the Cobbers grabbed 46 rebounds, scored 52 points in the paint and beat the Saints by 29 points.
Concordia (2-0, 1-0 MIAC) only trailed for less than 1-minute at the start of the first quarter, went on a 14-0 run and never looked back as they won consecutive games to start the season for the first time since the 2011-12 season.
The Cobbers' strength inside started with the decisive 14-0 streak and never wavered. Sophomore forward Makayla Anderson led the CC power attack in the first half. She 12 points and six rebounds in the first half. Concordia grabbed 27 boards in the first 20 minutes of play which was only four shy of the game total for the Saints.
Concordia finished the game by outrebounding St. Scholastica 46-31, and doubled up the Saints in points in the pain (52-26). The 46 rebounds are the most by the Cobbers since last year's season opener when they hauled down 47 boards against Morris.
Junior guard Jordyn Kahler came up big in the second and third quarters for the Cobbers. She scored 15 of her game-high 19 points in the middle quarter of play. She was 8-for-10 from the floor as she posted a career-high point total.
Anderson was the only other member of Concordia that finished with a double-digit point total. She was 4-for-9 from the floor and had 14 points. Anderson has now scored 14 points in each of the Cobbers' first two games. She also grabbed nine rebounds, and is averaging 10.0 rebounds this season.
Carlee Sieben and Emily Beseman had nine points each, while Symone Beld finished with eight points.
The Cobbers also had four players record five rebounds each. Both Beseman and Beld had five boards, and were joined by sophomore Greta Tollefson and freshman Lauren Halverson.
