MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/16/23)---The final two games of the regular season will be a chance for Concordia to fine tune its game for the upcoming playoffs. And after the second half against Carleton, the Cobbers appear to be firing on all cylinders and ready to take the next step.
Concordia shot 53.1% (31-for-63) from the field and 56.3% (9-for-16) in the second half as they outscored the Knights 44-30 on their way to a 30-point win at 79-49.
The win is the 20th of the year for the Cobbers, which marks the first time since 2014 that Concordia has reached the 20-win plateau. CC is 17-4 in the MIAC which is good for second place in the league standings.
The game started slowly with the two teams combining to score only 14 points in the first 6-minutes of play. They would finish with a total of 21 for the quarter.
Concordia was able to push the lead to double digits midway through the second period after they went on a 10-run to extend the lead to 32-16.
Carleton (7-17, 6-15 MIAC) was never able to cut the lead to single figures after that, while the Cobbers kept the margin at 20 or more points for the majority of the second half.
Concordia used its size advantage to outrebound the Knights 33-27, and come away with a 38-26 advantage in points in the paint.
The Cobbers had four of their five starters finish with at least 11 points. Sophomore Symone Beld was 8-for-9 from the field and finished with a career-high 18 points. She also came down with a team-high five rebounds to go along with two assists and two steals.
Fellow inside player Makayla Anderson scored 14 points and had four boards.
Emily Beseman was 4-for-7 from the floor, and added 13 points, while Carlee Sieben had a game-high seven assists to go with 11 points.
Seniors Kaylie Isaman and Mary Sem came off the bench to combine for 14 points. Isaman knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and finished with six points, while Sem was 4-for-5 from the field and had eight points.
