A Win Is A Win
Concordia outscored St. Catherine in all four quarters and posted a 56-42 over St. Catherine in a game that wouldn't capture any blue ribbons for Best in Show at the State Fair
MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/19/25)---Concordia's conference opener against St. Catherine won't capture any blue ribbons for Best in Show at the State Fair, but it will go down as a number in the win column and in the end, that is all that matters.
The Cobbers finished the game by shooting 29.7% (19-for-64) from the floor and a similar 28.0% (7-for-25) from 3-point range as they were able to outscore the Wildcats in all four quarters and prevail 56-42.
The key for Concordia in winning its fourth straight game came on the defensive end of the court where CC limited St. Catherine to only 3-for-19 (15.8%) from outside the arc and 30.0% from the floor. Both totals are season lows for the Wildcats.
In addition to containing the SCU shooting attack, the Cobbers also held a 48-34 advantage in rebounds and an impressive 20-6 edge in offensive rebounds. The 20 offensive rebounds are a season high and the most since the second-to-last game of last season when they also came down with 20 offensive boards against Carleton.
Concordia trailed for almost the entire first quarter but then a pair of made free throws by Maya Metcalf gave CC a 10-9 lead with 46-seconds remaining in the period.
St. Catherine (3-2, 0-1 MIAC) took their final lead of the game in the first minute of the second quarter and then a Maci Wheeldon layup started a 6-0 run and gave the Cobbers a lead they would never relinquish.
Concordia led 18-15 at the break and then outscored the Wildcats 26-17 in the third quarter to push the game out of reach.
Metcalf led the Cobbers with 12 points and 12 rebounds. It is her second double-double in the last three games and the 12 boards ties a season high. Metcalf is averaging 10.8 rebounds in the first four games this year which is fourth best in the MIAC.
Metcalf has also scored in double figures in three straight games.
Fellow transfer, Tatum Findley, posted her best game of the season in maroon and gold. She scored nine of her season-high 11 points in the third quarter and was a key to Concordia pulling away from SCU in the third period.
Findley finished with 11 points and three rebounds and was 2-for-6 from distance.
Taya Jeffrey and Kaitlyn Rohloff gave Concordia four players with a double-digit point total. Jeffrey was 2-for-2 from 3-point range and had 10 points. Rohloff matched Jeffrey's point total as she came away with a seaosn-high point total. She was 4-for-7 from the floor and 2-for-4 from outside the arc. Rohloff also added three assists and three rebounds.
Concordia will stay with its home non-conference schedule when they finish off their 5-game homestand by hosting Bethel on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m.
