Concordia exploded for three goals in their series finale at St. Mary’s as they battled to a 3-3 overtime tie with the playoff-bound Cardinals.
Concordia gave up the first three goals in their series opener at St. Mary’s and lost 3-1. The Cobbers outscored the playoff-bound Cardinals 1-0 in the final 28 minutes of play, but it was the first 22 minutes that cost CC as they fell behind 3-0.
Concordia trailed 1-0 after one to the defending national champions but then gave up four of the next five goals and lost 5-1 to #3 Gustavus. Sophomore Morgan Sauvageau had the lone goal for the Cobbers.
A pair of first-period goals proved to be the difference in Concordia’s 2-1 loss to St. Olaf in the series opener. The Oles scored two goals in a span of 1:27 to jump to a 2-0 lead and were able to hang on in the second and third periods as the Cobbers outshot the Oles 21-11 in the final 40 minutes of play.
Concordia scored the first goal and the last goal in its series opener at Bethel. Everything in between just added to the drama of the Cobbers’ 3-2 overtime win over the Royals.
Concordia found it tough sledding for the second straight game against No.1-ranked Wis.-River Falls and lost 7-0 to the unbeaten Falcons.
Morgan Sauvageau continued her recent scoring tear but it wasn’t enough as Concordia fell 2-1 to Hamline in the series finale. Sauvageau scored her fourth goal in the last five games in the Cobbers’ third 1-goal loss of the season.
Concordia lost a game of goal streaks against Hamline in the series opener. The Cobbers scored two consecutive goals in the third period, but the Pipers countered with three goals in the first two periods and two more after Concordia’s streak and handed CC a 5-2 loss.
Like the pulled apart, dried-up wishbone from a Thanksgiving turkey, Concordia split its series with Northland in their final games of November. The Cobbers rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the opener on Tuesday and then allowed three of the final four goals on Wednesday and lost 5-3.
Concordia had all the answers in its 3-3 overtime shootout win with St. Catherine in the series finale. The Cobbers trailed by a single goal on three different occasions but were able to come up with the equalizer each time and finally claimed an extra point in the MIAC standings for the shootout win.
