Cobbers Fall In Overtime In Series Opener
It was a goalie’s duel in Concordia’s series opener at St. Olaf. Cobber netminder Ashlea Arvidson stopped 24 of the 25 shots she faced but it was the Oles who were able to prevail by scoring the game winner in overtime and earning the 1-0 win.
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/24/25)---It was a goalie's duel in Concordia's series opener at St. Olaf. Cobber netminder Ashlea Arvidson stopped 24 of the 25 shots she faced but it was the Oles who were able to prevail by scoring the game winner in overtime and earning the 1-0 win.
Neither team was able to score in the 60 minutes of regulation as the two goalies combined to make 42 saves and keep the scoreboard at 0-0.
The game-winning goal came in the third minute of the OT session when St. Olaf won the faceoff in the Cobbers' zone, walked the puck to the net and fired it past Arvidson.
The loss drops Concordia's record to 3-13-0 in all games and 2-7-0 in the MIAC. The Oles up their overall mark to 7-8-1 and are now 4-4-1 in conference play.
The only difference on the shot chart came from the game-winning goal as St. Olaf held a 25-24 edge in shots on goal.
Memphis Mertens, Morgan Sauvageau and Jerica Friese all had three shots on target to lead the Cobbers.
Arvidson finished the 62:57 by turning aside 24 shots.
Concordia will go for the split in the series on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. in Northfield.
