ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/8/25)---Concordia dropped its second straight 5-0 decision at Hamline on Saturday.
Like Friday night's game, the Cobbers stayed close to the Pipers for an extended period of time until Hamline was able to score in bunches to pull away from Concordia.
The two teams skated through a scoreless first period on Saturday with the Cobbers going 0-for-2 on the power play and the Pipers being held off the board on their only PP of the first frame.
Hamline (13-8-0, 8-6-0 MIAC) scored the first goal of the game at the 5:29 mark of the second period and the score would stay at 1-0 until the final minute of the middle stanza.
The outlook of the contest completely changed in a span of 13 seconds in the final 16 seconds of the second period. Instead of heading into the period down only a single goal at 1-0, Concordia gave up two goals in 13 seconds and left the ice with a 3-goal deficit.
The Pipers scored their first goal on a rebound, dumped the puck into the Cobbers' end after CC won the ensuing faceoff, won the race to the puck and passed it out front where an HU attacker finished off the 1-time shot.
Hamline added two more goals in the first 3:39 of the third period to take the game from a 1-0 back-and-forth contest to a 5-0 cruise. The Pipers ended up scoring four goals at the end of the second period and the start of the third in a span of 3:55.
The Pipers held a 37-14 advantage in shots on goal for the game.
Junior Memphis Mertens led Concordia with three shots on goal.
The Cobbers used a pair of netminders in the game. Ashlea Arvidson started the game and played the first 41 minutes and stopped 22 shots. Kate Stephens finished off the game and made 15 saves.
Concordia will return home after three weeks on the road and will host Bethel in a 2-game series on Feb. 14-15. The games will be played at the Cullen Youth Hockey Center in Moorhead.
