Cullen Hockey Center = Goals And Wins
Concordia used another 5-goal game to beat Bethel and earn a sweep of the 2-game series. The Cobbers scored 10 goals and recorded two wins in the two games played at the Cullen Hockey Center.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/15/25)---You'll have to forgive Concordia if they petition the MIAC to play all their home games in the Cullen Hockey Center next year.
The Cobbers entered their weekend series with Bethel having scored a total of 17 goals and were 2-7 in their nine games at the Moorhead Sports Center. Concordia took the short trip to the west to the Cullen Hockey Center for their two games against the Royals and proceeded to light up the scoreboard for 10 goals, produced a pair of 5-goal games and went 2-0 on the weekend.
Concordia backed up its 5-1 on Friday night by scoring four of the first five goals on Saturday and went on to post a 5-3 win over Bethel.
The 10 goals on the weekend by Concordia are the most in a 2-game series this season. They are also the most in a conference series since the opening MIAC series of the 2022 campaign when they dropped 10 on St. Olaf but split the series.
It is also the first conference sweep for the Cobbers since 2022 when they also swept Bethel.
The two wins give the Cobbers five for the league this year, which is also the most since 2022. CC is now 6-17 overall and 5-11-0 in the MIAC. The 6-point weekend helped Concordia overtake the Royals for seventh place in the league standings.
Concordia followed the same script from Friday as they took a 2-0 lead and watched as Bethel cut the margin to a single goal before exploding for three straight strikes.
Taylor Severson got the Cobbers on the board in the third minute of the first period and the game stayed at 1-0 until the fourth minute of the second period.
Junior Jaclyn Lloyd doubled the lead when she slotted home a rebound at 3:01.
Bethel (10-12-0, 5-11-0 MIAC) made the score 2-1 with a goal at 7:44, and then strikes by Jerica Friese and Abbey Hardwick staked CC to a 4-1 lead after two periods of play.
Friese extended the lead to four goals when she netted her second goal of the game, and third of the weekend, only 48 seconds into the final frame.
The three goals in the two games give Friese nine for the season and she takes over the team lead in total points. Friese has 13 for the season.
The Royals made a late-game run at Concordia when they scored two goals less than 2 minutes apart from one another starting at 14:54.
The Cobbers proved that quality is better than quantity as they were outshot for the second straight game. BU held a 27-17 edge in shots on goal.
Concordia made its mark on the power play where they went 2-for-5 for the game. The two power play nuggets mark the second time in the last five games that CC has scored multiple power play goals in a single game.
Senior goalie Ashlea Arvidson recorded her second win of the weekend. She stopped 24 shots and now has six victories on the season.
The Cobbers will finish off the 2025 season when they square off with St. Benedict in a home-and-home series beginning in Moorhead on Friday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Moorhead Sports Center.
