Another High 5

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/21/25)---The stretch of "better late than never" continued for Concordia as they scored five goals for the third straight game and posted their third straight win.
The Cobbers entered last weekend's series having scored 24 goals in their first 14 league games. CC has now lit up the scoreboard 15 times in the last three contests.
The most recent 5-goal explosion came in the series opener with St. Benedict where Concordia scored three of the final four goals in the game and rallied to beat the Bennies 5-4.
The Cobbers were forced to chase the game from the very first minute of play, never led in the first 44 minutes of play and finally pulled ahead of CSB in the third period.
The victory gives Concordia its first 3-game win streak of the season. It's the longest win streak for CC since the start of the 2023 season. The Cobbers are now 7-17-0 in all games and 6-11-0 in league play. The six wins in MIAC play are the most since 2020.
The Cobbers fell behind in the first minute when they gift-wrapped an empty-net goal to St. Benedict at the 33 second mark.
That goal started a chain of six goals where the Bennies would take a 1-goal advantage and Concordia would counter with the game-tying goal.
Memphis Mertens tied the game for the first time when she scored an even-strength goal at 7:16 of the first period.
St. Benedict (11-10-3, 8-8-1) reclaimed the 1-goal lead when they scored 38 seconds after Mertens' fifth goal of the year.
Sophomore Taylyn Cope netted the first of her two goals in the game at 14:43 of the first frame and the teams skated into the locker room deadlocked at 2-2.
The Bennies opened the scoring in the second period when they grabbed a 3-2 lead at 8:08.
The 1-goal advantage lasted less than 5 minutes as Morgan Sauvageau grabbed the puck in the neutral zone, skated down the right wing and went top shelf from the faceoff circle to tie the game at 3-3 with 7:08 left in the middle period.
Concordia took its first lead of the game when Cope tipped in a pass from Mertens in the fifth minute of the third period. The goal at 4:49 was Cope's seventh of the year – the most in a single season for Cope.
St. Benedict played lead spoiler for the first time in the game when they tied the contest with a power play goal at 8:06 of the final period.
The Cobbers returned the power play favor when they notched the game-winner with the extra skater at the 13:05 mark. Abbey Reule was able to tap home the puck after an initial shot from Sauvageau.
Concordia was able to keep CSB from tying the game for the final 6:55 and limited the Bennies to only four shots on goal even when St. Benedict pulled its goalie with 1:54 remaining in regulation.
The Cobbers were outshot 35-25 in the game. Senior goalie Ashlea Arvidson turned aside 31 shots to pick up her seventh win of the year.
Concordia will look to make it four straight games with five goals when they finish off the 2025 season at St. Benedict on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m.
