Cobbers Fall 1–0 to St. Olaf in Defensive Battle

MOORHEAD, Min. (1/23/26) – Concordia and St. Olaf skated through 60 minutes of scoreless hockey before the Oles netted the lone goal early in the third period, handing the Cobbers a 1–0 setback Friday evening.
The opening period was scoreless as both teams settled in and traded early chances.
Concordia-Moorhead won the opening faceoff and applied consistent pressure throughout the frame, generating several scoring opportunities from in tight and behind the net, but were unable to capitalize. St. Olaf countered with a handful of chances of their own, including looks from the slot and around the crease.
The Cobbers earned the game's first power play at 15:17 but came up empty, while St. Olaf was also unable to convert on its man advantage later in the period. Strong defensive play and blocked shots on both sides kept the game even heading into the first intermission.
The second period remained scoreless as both teams continued to trade quality chances at even strength.
Concordia generated several strong looks early in the frame, including multiple opportunities in front of the net, but was unable to find the back of the net. Midway through the period, the Cobbers were forced to kill a St. Olaf power play following a minor penalty and successfully held the Oles scoreless. Concordia entered the second intermission tied 0–0.
St. Olaf broke the scoreless tie early in the third period, scoring just 31 seconds in to take a 1–0 lead.
Concordia responded with sustained offensive pressure, creating multiple scoring chances in front of the net and from below the goal line, but was unable to convert.
The Cobbers were forced to kill two St. Olaf power plays during the period and successfully held the Oles scoreless on both opportunities. Late in the frame, Concordia pulled the goalie in an effort to equalize and generated additional looks in the offensive zone, but the St. Olaf defense held firm to preserve the one-goal advantage as time expired.
Goalie Abby Huselid finished with 27 saves in the contest. The Cobbers return to action for game two against the Oles tomorrow with a 4:00 p.m. puck drop.
