Hunt, Schauer & Zierden Earn CSC Academic Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (6/30/24)---Cobber seniors Elijah Hunt (St. Peter, Minn.), Kellen Schauer (Bovey, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) and Gabe Zierden (Albany, Minn.) were all named to the Academic All-District At-Large Team as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC) (formerly CoSIDA).
Hunt earns his second straight CSC Academic All-District Team award, while Schauer and Zierden collect their first honor. All three athletes also earned National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American honors earlier in the year.
To be eligible for Academic All-District recognition, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and have played in at least 50 percent of the team's competition throughout the season.
The at-large category consists of student-athletes who participated in men's and women's golf, men's and women's hockey, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's skiing and wrestling.
Hunt went 20-11 on the year and finished in the Top 8 of the region at the NCAA Upper Midwest Region meet. Hunt is a Mathematics Education major with a minor in Spanish and has a 4.00 grade point average.
Schauer majored in Healthcare Leadership and minored in Sociology, and like Hunt, had a 4.00 GPA. He was 16-10 on the year and finished in fifth place at the NCAA Upper Midwest Regional.
Zierden became only the fifth athlete in program history to reach the championship match at an NCAA National Meet and first since 2011. He finished the year with All-American honors and a 38-4 record. The 38 wins tied the school's all-time record for wins in a single season.
Zierden had a 3.48 GPA while majoring in Exercise Science and minoring in Nutrition.
The Division III Academic All-America program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure, to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the Division III Academic All-America team's program.
