MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/04/25)---There were plenty of interesting storylines in the Cobbers' 2-2 tie with St. Mary's.
Concordia scored multiple goals for the first time this season, CC had a lead for the first time all year, they had a defender score her first collegiate goal and finished the game by recording a well-earned point in the conference standings. They accomplished all these things with a midfielder turned goalie who had never played a minute between the sticks in a college game.
First-year midfielder Addison Lowell was called in to play goalie after starting keeper Julia Roark suffered an injury in the team's last game. Lowell was a standout on her first college keeper appearance. She made five saves in the game and was solid throughout the 90 minutes.
St. Mary's (8-2-2, 2-1-2 MIAC) scored the only goal of the first half when they took a 1-0 lead at the 26:26 mark.
The Cobbers then countered for two goals in a span of 4:53 after having only netted one goal in their previous nine games.
Emma Sheflo scored her first goal of the year when she dropped the hammer on a shot from long distance. She won possession of the ball and took a couple of dribbles before sending the ball over the Cardinal goalie's head from 35 yards out.
The super strike at 51:01 tied the game at 1-1.
CC took the lead on a corner kick. Ella Shinn was able to knock home the go-ahead goal on a service from Ava Sylvester. It was Shinn's first collegiate goal and gave Concordia a 2-1 advantage with 34:06 left in the second half.
St. Mary's ended the Cobbers' hopes of a 3-point win when they tied the game at 77:22.
Concordia was outshot 12-8 in the game with SMU holding a 7-5 edge in shots on goal.
Sylvester had a team-high three shots with two on goal.
