ORLANDO, Fla. (3/5/2026)--- It took Concordia a couple of days to get rid of their winter wear, acclimatize to the warm weather and find their outdoor momentum but once they did they rolled to three straight wins.
The Cobbers lost the opener on their Florida trip but then rattled off three straight victories to finish their spring training trip at 3-1.
On Thursday, Concordia used a dominant opening in doubles and a string of straight‑set singles wins to power past Concordia (Wis.) 5–2 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
CC is now 5-6 on the season as they get set to head back to Minnesota.
The Cobbers swept all three doubles matches to grab a 1–0 lead. Tanis Lee and Alyssa Sommerfeld set the tone with a 6–1 win at No. 1, and the pairings of Shireen Durrani with Erin Borchard and Annalise Skrade with Ava Lowman followed with identical 6–3 victories to complete the sweep.
Concordia carried that momentum into singles play, earning four wins to secure the team result. Lee rolled to a 6–1, 6–0 win at No. 1 singles, and Sommerfeld matched that scoreline at No. 2. Borchard added another decisive victory with a 6–0, 6–1 performance at No. 4, while Skrade delivered the fourth point with a 6–1, 6–2 win at No. 5.
The Falcons claimed points at Nos. 3 and 6, but the Cobbers' strong start proved more than enough as they came away with the win.
The Cobbers will return to MIAC play when they face nationally-ranked Gustavus on Saturday, Mar. 14 in St. Peter.
