Cobbers Rally Late but Settle for 4–4 Tie with Marian in Overtime

The Cobbers jumped out to an early lead in the opening period, scoring twice in the first half of the frame.
Concordia opened the scoring at 11:43 when Tucker Skime converted on the power play, finishing a feed from Caden Triggs and Joe Harguindeguy to give the Cobbers a 1–0 advantage. Concordia extended the lead at 17:09, as Ryan Roethke scored at even strength with assists from Will Hofer and Zach Stoner to make it 2–0.
Marian answered late in the period, cutting the deficit in half at 18:39 on an even-strength goal by Brett Sabel. The Sabres completed the comeback in the final minute of the period when Caden Carlson scored off a faceoff with 33 seconds remaining, tying the game at 2–2 heading into the first intermission.
Marian took its first lead of the night early in the second period. Nolan Flint scored at even strength at 4:40 to put the Sabres ahead 3–2. Marian added to its advantage at 17:22 when Brady Brenner netted an even-strength goal off assists from Cole Carlson and Eemil Rautio to make it 4–2.
Concordia responded late in the second period to stay within striking distance. Tal Halliday scored at even strength with 36 seconds remaining in the frame to cut the deficit to 4–3 heading into the second intermission.
The third period remained scoreless for most of the frame until Concordia pulled even late.
Following a timeout, Caden Triggs scored an even-strength goal with 55 seconds remaining, finishing assists from Ben Luedtke and Patrick Dunaiski to tie the game at 4–4 and force overtime.
The five-minute overtime featured end-to-end play, with both teams generating scoring chances. Concordia created multiple opportunities early in the extra session, while Marian answered with its own chances, but both goaltenders stood tall. Neither team was able to find the decisive goal, and the contest ended in a 4–4 tie.
In the subsequent shootout, Marian prevailed 2–1.
Philippe De Champlain stareted the game, played the first two periods and finished with 14 saves while Noel Olsonawski played the third period and OT and had five stops for the Cobbers.
The Cobbers return to the ice against Marian tomorrow with a 3:00 p.m. puck drop.
