No Late-Game Drama Necessary
Concordia built a 6-1 lead going into the third period and made sure there would be no late-game drama as they cruised past St. Scholastica. Seniors Joe Harguindeguy and Matthew Hard scored two goals each to lead Concordia to the 6-2.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/16/26)---For the second straight game Concordia took a big lead into the third period at home, but unlike their win in overtime last Saturday, the Cobbers never allowed their opponent to gain momentum in the final frame and cruised to a 6-2.
The Cobbers scored three goals in each of the first two period on their way to the 4-goal win over St. Scholastica.
The victory runs Concordia's win streak to two games and is their third in the last four games. CC is now 6-7-2 in all games and 2-4-1 in conference play.
Seniors Joe Harguindeguy and Matthew Hard were the main culprits in the series opener. Harguindeguy scored the first two goals of the game and Hard added the final two goals of the game. For Harguindeguy it was his second multiple-goal game of the season, while Hard scored more than one goal for the first time in his college career.
The game wasn't even a minute old when Harguindeguy gave CC a lead they would never relinquish. He took the rebound off of a shot from Carson Triggs, walked around the goalie and slid the bunny into the open net.
Caden Triggs also earned an assist on the opener, and it would be the first of two goals in the game that the Triggs' brothers helped to set up.
Harguindeguy doubled the Cobbers' lead less than 3-minutes later when he roofed a shot from the left faceoff circle at the 3:27. Brady O'Brien and Zach Stoner were credited with the helpers on Harguindeguy's team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Tucker Skime made it a 3-spot for Concordia before the game was 13 minutes old. He scored the third even-strength goal at 12:54 on assists from Patrick Dunaiski and Ryan Roethke.
St. Scholastica (4-11-1, 1-5-1 MIAC) finally got on the board when they cut the deficit to two goals with 2:25 left in the opening period.
The Cobbers put the game out of reach n the middle period. Will Hofer made it two consecutive periods with goals in the first minute of play when he scored his second goal in as many games at the 28-second mark. The Triggs' boys set up their second goal of the game after they cleared the puck out of the corner and fed it to a wide open Hofer who had his first shot stopped but then blasted home the second chance.
Hard finished off the score sheet for CC when he netted his first goal at 6:46 and upped the Cobbers' lead to 6-1 with a strike at 9:47. Jack Hanson was credited with the assist on Hard's first goal while his second marker was unassisted.
The Saints scored the only goal of the third period in the second minute of play and then Concordia clamped the defensive zone down tight.
The Cobbers finished the game with a 32-22 edge in shots on goal. Neither team was able to post a power play goal with CC going 0-for-4 and St. Scholastica was held off the board in their three chances.
First-year netminder Noel Olsonawski turned aside 20 shots to earn his third win of the year.
Concordia will go for the series sweep when they host the Saints on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m.
