Goals And Ties A Plenty
Concordia recorded its fourth game with at least two goals and posted its third tie in the first five games as they finished deadlocked at 3-3 at Minn.-Morris in a midweek non-conference contest.
MORRIS, Minn. (9/10/25)---The one thing fans have learned about the 2025 Cobber squad is that they can score goals. Concordia put up three more tallies on the board at Minn.-Morris but had to settle for a 3-3 tie.
The Cobbers have now scored at least two goals in four of their five games this year and have 10 total goals on the season. Their goal total is three more than CC scored in all of last season.
The Cobbers held leads of 1-0, 2-0 and 3-2 against the Cougars but couldn't close out the game and were saddled with their third tie of the season. Concordia is now 0-2-3 on the season, while Morris has their record go to 1-3-1.
Concordia got on the board first when senior Colin Moore got behind the Morris defense after a throw-in. Moore was able to break free on the left wing and fire a shot into the far corner to give CC a 1-0 lead at the 14:14 mark. The goal was the first of Moore's collegiate career and wouldn't be the last of the game.
Sophomore defender Victor Ambenge gave Concordia two career-first goal scorers when he nodded home a service from Parker Gast off of a corner kick. The dead ball goal with 4:27 left in the first half doubled the Cobbers' lead and allowed CC to take its first halftime lead of the season.
Morris came up with the all-important "next goal" in the second minute of the second half. Aaron Mackall got behind the defense and was denied by Cobber keeper Jack Solheid on the breakaway, but the rebound caromed right back to Mackall and he finished off the second chance.
Mackall would tie the game at the 61:46 mark when he once again broke free from the center of the defense and went in on a breakaway. Unlike his initial strike, he was able to put home the equalizer on his first attempt.
The gam appeared to be headed for a 2-2 draw, but then Ambenge lofted a ball into the penalty area from 40 yards out on the left wing. Frontrunner Ricco Rolle jumped for the header and collided with the goalie on a 50-50 challenge which allowed the ball to drop to the ground where Moore was standing, and he tapped home the bunny at 82:52.
The 1-goal lead would only last 1:10. Morris was awarded a free kick from 35 yards out on the right wing. The ball was played into the penalty area on a line drive service and bounced off several players before a Morris player was able take a touch and fire a left-footed shot into the lower right corner of the net.
Concordia held a 26-17 margin in total shots and a 12-9 edge in shots on goal. Both the total shots and shots on goal totals were season highs for the Cobbers.
Rolle led Concordia with five total shots, while Gannon Brooks had a team-high three shots on frame.
Solheid finished the contest with a season-high six saves.
The Cobbers will look for their first win of the season when they play at Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 5 p.m.
