Metcalf's 32-Point Performance Pushes Cobbers Past Wildcats
Maya Metcalf scored 32 points to help lead Concordia to an 81-71 win over St. Catherine. She is only the 10th player in program history to have at least 30 points in a game and pushed the Cobbers one step closer to the MIAC regular-season title.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/11/26)---Maya Metcalf became only the 10th player in program history to score at least 30 points in a single game as she helped No.22-ranked Concordia outpace St. Catherine 81-71 and move one step closer to an MIAC regular-season championship.
Metcalf was 10-for-16 from the floor and 4-for-5 from outside the arc in putting up a career-high 32 points against the Wildcats. Her 32-point game is the most since 2000 when Mary Sem had 34 against Hamline.
The win is the fifth straight for the Cobbers and eighth in the last nine games. Concordia is 19-3 in all games and still holds a 1-game lead in the league standings with three games left to play. CC is 13-2 against MIAC opponents.
Once again it was the second half that proved to be the difference for the "wear 'em down" Cobbers. The game was tied 37-37 at the halftime break but then Concordia went on a 14-6 run to start the third quarter, outscored St. Catherine 25-18 in that period and had a 3-point advantage in the fourth quarter.
Concordia has outscored its opponents in the second half in 19 of their 22 games this season. CC is now 19-0 when they post more points than their foes in the final 20 minutes of play.
One of the big differences in the second half came from around the basket. The Cobbers were outrebounded 18-12 in the first half, and the Wildcats held a 24-10 advantage in points in the paint. In the second half, Concordia held a 20-14 edge in rebounding with each team posting 12 points in the paint.
Concordia shot in the 40-percent range from the field and behind the arc in both halves of play and sealed the game by going 12-for-14 (85.7%) from the free throw line in the second half of play.
Metcalf added nine rebounds, five blocks and four assists to her 32 points. She is now second in the MIAC in rebounding and blocks and third in scoring in conference games.
Metcalf was also the only Cobber player with more than 10 points in the game.
Junior guard Genevieve Gruba finished with nine points, a career-high eight rebounds and four assists.
Taya Jeffrey and Molly Musland both had eight points.
Taylor Safranski added three more assists to her season total and is second in the MIAC in that stat category.
Concordia will host Macalester in the annual Senior Celebration Day game on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 1 p.m.
