Series Finale Ends In Overtime Tie

Concordia couldn't come up with a goal scoring spree in the third period and tied St. Olaf 1-1 in overtime in the series finale.

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (2/11/17)--- There would be no third-period scoring spree in the third period of the Cobbers' series finale at St. Olaf. Unlike the opener on Friday where Concordia scored three times in the final frame, CC was held off the board and skated to a 1-1 overtime tie with the Oles.

Concordia put up 41 shots on goal in the second game with St. Olaf but only a Tori Davis shot towards the end of the second period found its way into the net as the Cobbers skated to their third tie of the season.

The Cobbers are now 13-7-3 overall and 10-4-2 in the MIAC and in a solid third place in the conference standings.  St. Olaf is now 7-14-2 in all games and 6-8-2 in conference play.

Concordia put up a game-high 15 shots in the first period but was unable to come away with a goal and skated into the first intermission deadlocked at 0-0. Both teams had a single power play attempt in the opening 20 minutes of play but neither could break the scoreless affair.

The Cobbers finally scored on their final shot of the second period when Davis netted an even-strength goal at 17:19. For Davis it was her 12th goal of the year.

St. Olaf exploded from the start of the third period and put up eight shots on goal in the first eight minutes of play before finally tying the game at the 8:29 mark.

Concordia then turned the ice and went on the attack and recorded nine shots in the second half of the third period.  The Cobbers continued that attack in the 5-minute overtime period as they hammered four shots on goal.

The Cobbers outshot St. Olaf 41-31 for the three periods and overtime. Freshman Amanda Flemming led Concordia with six shots on goal. Jess Nelson and Amber Schaack had five shots each.

Cobber goalie Andrea Klug stopped 30 of the 31 shots she faced.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will finish off the regular season when they host Bethel on Friday, Feb. 17 and Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Moorhead Sports Center. The Royals are 7-12-4 overall and 4-8-4 in the MIAC and are coming off a pair off losses against league-leading Gustavus.
