MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/12/25)---You can officially call it a win streak. Concordia scored the final two goals in the series opener with Wis.-Superior and outlasted the Yellowjackets 3-1 to pick up its second straight win and third in the last five games.
The Cobbers earned their third win of the season by getting goals from Jaclyn Lloyd and Memphis Mertens in the final 23 minutes of play and riding the solid goaltending of senior Hailee Bailey to come through with the victory.
Concordia is now 3-2 in its last five games and 3-6 overall after starting the season with an 0-4 mark. Superior loses for the sixth straight time and is 1-9 to start the year.
The teams skated through a scoreless first period before Taylyn Cope opened the scoring on the power play in the eighth minute of the second period. She took the puck behind the Superior net and tried to score on a wraparound but the puck bounced off a pair of players in front of the net and went straight back to Cope who tapped home the uncontested rebound.
Cope's unassisted goal at 7:22 of the second period was Cope's fourth of the season which tied her for the team lead with Addie Moos.
The Yellowjackets returned the power play favor when they tied the game at the 9:34 mark.
Lloyd got the game-winning goal with less than 3:00 left in the middle frame. She was able to jam home a rebound after CC had a 3-on-2 rush with Morgan Sauvageau and Kylie Huseth setting up the play.
Lloyd earned her second goal of the season with Sauvageau getting her team-leading fifth helper of the year and Huseth adding her third of the season.
Concordia was able to hold off a late Superior attack after the Yellowjackets pulled their goalie with 1:15 left in the game and then added the empty-net special with 9-seconds left in regulation.
Memphis Mertens put the game to bed when she fired home a backhand from 150 feet away. She had her back to goal and then just sent the backhand shot from inside her own blue line straight into the net.
Huseth and Allie Emineth were credited with Mertens' second goal of the year.
Concordia outshot Superior 29-23 for the game with Bailey stopping 22 shots including several key saves in the first period.
The teams will finish off the 2025 portion of their schedules when they drop the puck on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 1 p.m.
