Concordia was given a tough task to open the 2026 calendar year as they squared off against No.1-ranked Wis.-River Falls on the road. The Cobbers kept the game close for the first 35 minutes but then gave up three of the final four goals and lost 5-2.

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (1/02/26)---Concordia was given a tough task to open the 2026 calendar year as they squared off against No.1-ranked Wis.-River Falls on the road. The Cobbers kept the game close for the first 35 minutes but then gave up three of the final four goals and lost 5-2.
The Falcons entered the game with a 9-1-0 record and opened the scoring in the 17th minute of the first period but then Concordia countered with an even-strength goal from Allie Emineth to tie the game at 1-1 with 1:36 left in the opening frame.
The game-tying goal was set up by Siena Kropp and Lila Lanctot, who both earned their first helpers of the season.
The game would swing in the final 1:30 of each of the two opening periods of the game. River Falls took a 2-1 lead with only 1-seconds left in the first stanza and then broke the game open with their fourth goal at the 18:37 mark of the second period.
Concordia (4-7-0) would get to within two goals in the third minute of the third period when Addie Moos netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season but that would be as close as CC would get as the Falcons added a fifth goal less than a minute later.
Memphis Mertens and Taylyn Cope had the assists on Moos' goal which came on the power play at the 2:42 mark.
The assist was Cope's sixth of the season. That total leads the Cobbers as does her 11 total points on the year.
The Cobbers were outshot 43-16 in the game with first-year netminder Abby Huselid turning aside 38 shots.
Concordia was 1-for-3 on the power play and held the nation's top power play to only one goal in their six chances.
The two teams will finish off the 2-game series on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 2 p.m.
