Cope And Sauvageau Drive Cobbers to 5–3 Win over St. Scholastica
MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/16/26) — Concordia-Moorhead used a strong third period to earn a 5–3 victory over St. Scholastica on Saturday, improving to 6-8-0 overall and 3-4-0 in MIAC play.
DULUTH, Minn. (1/16/26)---Concordia got two goals from Taylyn Cope, a career-high four assists from Morgan Sauvageau and scored tyhree unanswered goals in the third period to earn a 5–3 victory over St. Scholastica in the series opener on Friday
The win is the fifth in the last seven games for the Cobbers and ups theur record to 6-8-0 overall and 3-4-0 in MIAC play.
St. Scholastica (5-8-1, 0-6-1 MIAC) opened the scoring at 5:55 of the first period, but the Cobbers responded late in the frame. Jaclyn Lloyd netted the equalizer at 15:55, finishing a play set up by Cope and Sauvageau. It would be the first of four assists on the night for Sauvageau.
Shortly after the ensuing faceoff, the Saints regained the lead with an even-strength goal, heading into the first intermission up 2–1.
After a scoreless stretch early in the second period, Concordia broke through at 17:26 when Cope scored at even strength off assists from Morgan Sauvageau and Allie Emineth, tying the game at 2–2.
The Saints answered early in the third period to take a 3–2 lead, but Concordia quickly regained momentum. Cope scored her second goal of the game at 6:11 to even the score once again.
Addie Moos scored the game-winning goal on the power play at 11:42. The strike was set up by Cope and Memphis Mertens. Concordia added an insurance goal just over a minute later when Mertens scored her third goal of the year at 12:53 to secure the 5–3 win.
Abby Huselid earned the win in net for the Cobbers, making 26 saves. Cope finished with two goals and an assist to lead Concordia, while Emineth added two assists.
The Cobbers return to action on Sunday for game two of the series against St. Scholastica at 2:00 p.m.
