Give-And-Take Game Ends In OT
It was a give-and-take affair between the Cobbers and St. Olaf in the series finale on Saturday. Unfortunately for Concordia, it finished in the give category as the Oles took the 5-4 win in overtime.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/24/26)---It was a give-and-take affair between the Cobbers and St. Olaf in the series finale on Saturday. Unfortunately for Concordia, it finished in the give category as the Oles took the 5-4 win in overtime.
The Cobbers got a goal and three assists from senior captain Memphis Mertens but the 4-point game wasn't enough as CC settled for the one point in the MIAC standings due to the the loss in OT.
St. Olaf opened the scoring late in the first on a power‑play tally but then Concordia flipped the script early in the second with two quick answers. Addie Moos tied it at 3:56 off a setup from Mertens, and less than three minutes later, first‑year defender Keira Hauskins buried her first collegiate goal of the season at 6:52, with Mertens and Moos providing the assists.
The game turned again as St. Olaf scored two consecutive goals to take a 3-2 lead at the start of the third period.
The 1-goal deficit would last for less than 3-minutes before MIAC Offensive Player of the Week Morgan Sauvageau hammered home a power‑play equalizer at 3:03. Mertens picked up her third assist of the day on the play and Taylyn Cope was credited with the other helper.
The game turned once again at the 7:03 mark of the final frame when St. Olaf took a 4-3 lead.
Mertens decided to do the work herself on the final game-tying goal. She netted an even-strength goal at the 15:06 mark which eventually sent the game into overtime. Abby Reule and Allie Emineth set up Mertens' fifth goal of the season.
The goal also gave Mertens 15 points on the season which is tied for second on the Cobbers and one point shy of Cope who leads the team with 16 points.
Concordia out‑shot St. Olaf 33–28, including a 14–7 edge in the second period. Mertens Reule, Anna Nelson and Cope all finished with four shots on goals for CC. Both teams scored on the power play in the series finale. The Cobbers went 1‑for‑5 while the Oles were 2‑for‑3.
Cobber goaltender Abby Huselid turned aside 23 shots.
Concordia will stay at home and host St. Catherine on Jan. 30-31 in another key MIAC playoff push match-up.
