Overtime Is Unkind
Concordia never trailed in its series opener with No.6-ranked Hamline until the final shot of the game. The Cobbers played one of the best games of their season and were either leading or tied with the league-leading Pipers for 60:56 but unfortunately a goal in the first minute of overtime sent CC to a 4-3 loss.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/6/26)---Concordia never trailed in its series opener with No.6-ranked Hamline until the final shot of the game. The Cobbers played one of the best games of their season and were either leading or tied with the league-leading Pipers for 60:56 but unfortunately a goal in the first minute of overtime sent Concordia to a 4-3 loss.
The overtime loss is the second in the last four games for the Cobbers, who pick up a point in the conference standings for a defeat in overtime. The precious point helps Concordia move into a tie for fifth place in the MIAC standings in the race for the 5-team conference playoffs.
Concordia is now 8-12-0 in all games and 5-8-0 overall. Hamline wins for the eighth time in the last 10 games and is 16-3-1 in all games and 10-2-1 in conference play.
The Cobbers struck less than two minutes into the game when Taylor Severson finished off a 2-on-1 rush after a silky pass from Anna Nelson. Madilyn Skogman started the play and got the puck into the neutral zone for Nelson who slid the puck across to Severson. Severson went to her backhand to put away her first goal of the season.
Concordia doubled its lead midway through the frame when senior Jaclyn Lloyd buried a second chance off a shot from the point from feeds from fellow senior Keira Hauskins at the 13:11 mark. The goal was Lloyd's fourth of the season and 11th of her career. Taylyn Cope picked up the second assist on CC's second goal of the period.
The teams skated through a scoreless second period with both goalies making big stops to keep the score at 2-0 in favor of the Cobbers. That set the stage for the dramatic third stanza.
Hamline began their comeback in the third. Hamline converted on a power play at 9:36 to cut the lead in half, and then tied the game less than a minute later on an even‑strength goal at 10:27.
Concordia responded with a power‑play goal of its own when Abbey Reule tipped home a shot at 17:47. Reule's first goal of the year came 1:30 into the extra skater advantage and was set up by a shot from the point off the stick of Huseth. The helper was Huseth's second of the game and ninth of the season. Allie Emineth was credited with her eighth assist on the play.
The Cobbers smelled another big home upset with only 2:13 left in regulation but an goal by HU only 18-seconds later sent the game into overtime.
Concordia held the possession for most of the first minute of the extra session but Hamline was able to pick up the puck in the neutral zone and take advantage of a 2-on-1 situation to score the game winner.
The Cobbers were outshot 38-31 in the game with CC goalie Abby Huselid making 34 saves.
Siena Kropp and Memphis Mertens led Concordia with six shots on goal each.
Both teams finished the game 1-for‑4 on the power play.
The Cobbers will look to collect more key conference points in the final game of the series on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m.
