Royals Use Special Teams To Surge Past Cobbers

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (2/14/26) – A pair of special-teams goals midway through the second period proved to be the difference as Concordia fell 4-0 at Bethel on Saturday afternoon.
Concordia and Bethel skated through a scoreless opening period as both teams generated chances. Goaltender Abby Huselid was sharp from the start, turning aside 15 first-period shots including a flurry during a Bethel power play midway through the frame. The Cobbers also had an early man advantage opportunity but were unable to solve Royals goalie Ashley Gustafson Hess.
The game shifted in the second period. Concordia had back-to-back power-play opportunities in the opening minutes but surrendered a short-handed goal at 7:35 when Amelia McQuay scored unassisted to give Bethel a 1-0 lead. The Royals added a power-play goal just over a minute later as Kallie Abrahamson Tibbetts found the back of the net at 8:38 to extend the lead to 2-0.
Bethel added an even-strength goal at 4:37 of the third period from Abrahamson Tibbetts before sealing the game with an empty-net tally at 18:23.
Huselid finished the afternoon with 27 saves as Bethel held a 31-27 advantage in shots on goal. Concordia pushed late with the extra attacker but was unable to break through.
The Cobbers will look to bounce back in their last regular game of the season on February 20th against Saint Benedict at 7:00 PM.
