MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/08/25)---Concordia's series finale with Augsburg appeared to be headed down a similar path as the opener on Friday with both teams exchanging goals in the first and second periods in a tight checking contest. Unfortunately for the Cobbers, the game veered off that path late in the second period as Augsburg scored three unanswered goals in the final 22-minutes of play to hand Concordia a 4-1 loss.
The decisive stretch of the game came in a 2:30 period around the second intermission. The Auggies scored the game-winning goal on the power play with 2:00 left in the second frame and then added a third just 19-seconds into the third period to grab a 3-1 lead.
Augsburg (1-2-1, 1-0-1 MIAC) capped the scoring with a second power play tally in the sixth minute of the third period to bring the final total to 4-1.
Concordia (1-2-1, 0-1-1 MIAC) held the majority of the offensive zone time in the third period and had a 6-on-5 advantage for a full 5 minutes after pulling goalie Dane Couture with 5:27 left in the final period but couldn't break through the Augsburg defense despite outshooting AU 16-8 in the final 20 minutes of play.
The Cobbers' lone goal came at 12:11 of the second period when Zak Kennett tipped in a shot from the point off the stick of Talan Plante. The goal was Kennett's first of the season and tied the game at 1-1.
Concordia finished the game by outshooting Augsburg 28-21 with Tucker Skime posting a team-high three shots on goal.
Couture made 17 saves and was handed his first loss of the season.
Special teams was another key factor in the contest. Concordia was held scoreless in its two PP chances, while the Auggies went 2-for-5 on the power play.
The Cobbers will head outside the MIAC for their next two games. CC will head to Wisconsin to play at Wis.-Eau Claire on Friday, Nov. 14 and then at Wis.-River Falls on Saturday, Nov. 15.
