Second-Half Success Lights Up The Knights
Concordia used the first career double-double from senior Molly Musland and an air-tight defense in the second half to dispatch Carleton 82-42. Musland finished with a game-high totals in points and rebounds and the Cobbers held the Knights to only 13 points in the final 20 minutes of play in picking up their 17th win of the season.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/04/26)---Concordia used the first career double-double from senior Molly Musland and an air-tight defense in the second half to dispatch Carleton 82-42.
Musland finished with a game-high totals in points and rebounds and the Cobbers held the Knights to only 13 points in the final 20 minutes of play in picking up their 17th win of the season.
Concordia has now won three straight games, six of the last seven and is 17-3 on the year. The win also keeps CC atop the MIAC standings with an 11-2 mark.
Concordia controlled the game on both ends, shooting 49.3% (33-for-67) from the field while holding Carleton to a mere 20.7% (6-for-29) in the second half.
The Cobbers owned a lopsided 51-22 advantage in rebounds. The 51 boards are a season high, while the 22 rebounds are the fewest by a Concordia opponent this season.
Concordia also came away with 20 offensive boards and turned that stat into 23 second‑chance points.
The difference in the game came from Concordia's depth as they were able to wear down the Knights in the second half. Concordia blew the game open with a 23–4 run in the third quarter and never allowed the Knights back within reach.
Concordia's defense set the tone early and continued to tighten as the game progressed, limiting Carleton to single‑digit scoring in both the third and fourth quarters. The Cobbers forced 17 turnovers and turned them into 12 points. The Knights' only sustained push came late in the second quarter when they cut the lead to five points but a 3-pointer by Musland in the final second of the half allowed CC to go into the break with an 8-point lead at 37-29.
The Cobbers had 15 players score in the game, had eight players with at least five points and got 45 points from players coming off the bench, while a young Carleton team used only seven players in the game and had five players score points.
Musland was 4-for-6 from outside the arc and finished with 14 points. She also tied her career high in rebounds with 10.
Senior guard Genevieve Gruba was the only other Concordia player with a double-digit point total. She was 5-for-7 from the floor and had 10 points.
Maya Metcalf added nine points and seven rebounds, while first-year guard Kaitlyn Rohloff came away with nine points and two assists. Kaia Gack posted eight points and four boards and Maci Wheeldon continued her recent string of quality minutes with five points and five rebounds.
Concordia will look to continue its streak of success when they host Hamline on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m.
