It was so close to an epic comeback win for the Cobbers in their series finale at St. Catherine. Concordia trailed 3-1 with 6 minutes left in the third period and scored two goals in a span of 4:08 to tie the game but then conceded a goal in the third minute of overtime and lost 3-2.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/01/25)---It was so close to an epic comeback win for the Cobbers in their series finale at St. Catherine. Concordia trailed 3-1 with 6 minutes left in the third period and scored two goals in a span of 4:08 to tie the game but then conceded a goal in the third minute of overtime and lost 4-3.
The 2-goal comeback to force the overtime period earned Concordia a point in the league standings. The Cobbers get four points from the weekend and now have 10 points in the MIAC which is good for eighth place. CC is 4-15-0 in all games and 3-9-0 in the conference.
Concordia got off to a slow start on Saturday after their 3-2 win on Friday night. The Cobbers allowed a goal at the 2:23 mark of the first period and then gave up two goals in 22 seconds toward the end of the period and trailed 3-1 after the first 20 minutes of play.
The lone highlight of the first period for CC came when Taylyn Cope netted the first of her two goals in the period on the power play at 6:48. Jayda Krikorian and Taylor Severson picked up the assists on the strike that tied the game at 1-1.
Neither team scored in the second period or the first half of the third period and it appeared that Concordia would go quietly and lose by two. That all changed when head coach Jason Gregoire pulled goalie Ashlea Arvidson with 6:22 left in regulation. The move paid off when Abbey Hardwick picked up her second goal of the series to get CC within one at 3-2.
The goal at 14:01 was set up by Jerica Friese and Morgan Sauvageau.
Cope completed the improbable 2-goal comeback when she sniped a shot from the top of the faceoff circles that went over the shoulder of the SCU goalie and into the top shelf of the net.
The strike with only 1:51 to play was Cope's fifth of the year and Allie Emineth recorded her third helper of the season.
The overtime session was slanted in the Wildcats' favor as they were able to outshoot the Cobbers 3-0.
St. Kate's finished the game by outshooting Concordia 36-23. Both teams scored two power play goals. CC was 2-for-4 with the extra attacker and SCU went 2-for-7.
Hailee Bailey started in goal for the Cobbers and played the first 20 minutes. She made eight saves. Arvidson finished off the final 42:33 and stopped 24 shots.
Concordia will stay on the road next weekend when they play at Hamline on Feb. 7-8.
