MOORHEAD, Minn. — Concordia-Moorhead used a strong third-period push to earn a 5-2 victory over St. Scholastica on Saturday afternoon.
The win moves the Cobbers to 7-8 overall and 4-4 in MIAC play. Concordia has now won three straight games and six of the past eight.
The game started with both teams feeling each other out, but Concordia struck late in the first period.
Memphis Mertens scored off assists from Kylie Huseth and Anna Nelson, giving the Cobbers a 1-0 lead heading into the second.
The second period saw no scoring from Concordia, while St. Scholastica responded with goals from Grace Chapman and Suzi Vidmar, taking a 2-1 lead into the final period. Despite the deficit, Concordia remained aggressive, with Addie Moos testing the Saints' goaltender with two late-period shots.
Concordia turned the tide in the third. Morgan Sauvageau tied the game on an even-strength play set up by Mertens and Jaclyn Lloyd.
Just one minute later, following a faceoff, Moos scored unassisted to give the Cobbers a 3-2 lead. Nelson added two late goals — one at 6:25 assisted by Taylor Severson and an empty-netter with 48 seconds remaining — finalizing the score at 5-2.
Goaltender Abby Huselid finished with 19 saves to secure the win.
